Sacred Mt. Everest Tour 9 days
Itinerary
Day 1: Lhasa Arrival
Welcome to China. Upon arrival, our local guide will take you to your downtown hotel. Then take a rest in order to acclimatize to the high altitude in preparation for the next few days’ tour.
Day 2: Lhasa (B+L)
Sightseeing: Potala Palace / Norbulingka / Sera Monastery
In the morning, you will visit the most well-known landmark of Tibet, the Potala Palace, which is famous for its grand buildings, complicated constructions, devotional atmosphere and splendid artworks. Afterwards, you will visit Norbulingka, meaning 'Treasure Park' in Tibetan. Then you will also pay a visit to Sera Monastery. It is one of three famous monasteries in Lhasa along with the Drepung Monastery and Ganden Monastery.
Day 3: Lhasa (B+L)
Sightseeing: Jokhang Temple / Barkhor Street / Drepung Monastery
Today you'll start from the spiritual center of Tibetan Buddhism - Jokhang Temple. With an area of 25,100 square meters (about six acres), it is the ultimate pilgrimage destination for Tibetan Pilgrims. Afterwards, you will visit Barkhor Street, which is a very ancient round street surrounding the Jokhang Temple. As a symbol of Lhasa, this street is also a must-see place for the tourists. After visiting Barkhor Street, you will proceed to Drepung Monastery. Drepung Monastery is known as the most important monastery of Gelugpa in Tibetan Buddhism.
Day 4: Lhasa –Gyangtse by Private van (B+L)
Sightseeing: Pelkhor Choede
Get up early in the morning and drive about 246km to Gyangtse. On the way, you will visit
Pelkhor Choede (Palkhor Monastery), a monastery having the characteristics of Han, Tibetan and Nepali architecture. It is famous for the architecture, sculpture, and mural painting art.
Day 5: Gyangtse - Shigatse by Private van (B+L)
Sightseeing: Tashilunpo Monastery
Today you will experience the Tashilunpo Monastery, one of the Six Big Monasteries of Gelugpa (or Yellow Hat Sect) in Tibet. Tashilhunpo is the seat of the Panchen Lama since the Fourth Panchen Lama took charge in the monastery, and there are now nearly 800 lamas. Besides the grand palace and gigantic statues, the Tashilhunpo Monastery also treasures characteristic wall paintings.
Day 6: Shigatse – Dingri (B+L)
Sightseeing: Rongbuk Monastery
Get up early and continue to drive westwards to Dingri, which has a distance of 232 km from Lhasa city and is the gateway to Everest North Base Camp. Then you will visit Rongbuk Monastery, which lies to the north of the oblate Mt. Everest, the highest peak in the world. Seen from here, Mt. Everest appears like a lofty pyramid surrounded by mountains that touch the sky. It is about 8 km. (4.97 mi.) to the Everest Base Camp and a good point to appreciate the scenery there at dawn and dark.
Day 7: Dingri – Shigatse (B+L)
In mid-morning you set out on the long drive back to Shigatse.
Day 8: Shigatse –Lhasa (B+L)
Sightseeing: Tibet Museum
Get up early, you will drive back to Lhasa and visit Tibet Museum. Tibet Museum not only shows the civilization of Tibet, it is also an ideal location to hold cultural exchanges and seminars, to preserve cultural relics, and to encourage the archaeological study of Tibet.
Day 9: Lhasa –Next Destination (B)
In the morning, you will depart for a flight to next destination.
