Itinerary
Day 1 Taiyuan Arrival (B)
Sightseeing: Jinci Temple
Greetings and begin your journey to Jinci Temple directly. Jinci Temple is a combination of historical cultural relics and beautiful landscapes. There are three additional wonders that draw people from across the world to the temple. These are: The Figures of The Maidservants, the Zhou Cypress and the Never Aging Spring.
Day 2: Taiyuan - Pingyao by private van (B+L)
Sightseeing: Twin Pogoda Temple / Qiao's Compoun / Pingyao Ancient Town
Today you will experience the Twin Pogoda Temple, which were built under the Emperor Wanli's order in 1608 during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Each of the pagodas has 13 stories and is made entirely of bricks and stone. After lunch, drive to Pingyao and visit Qiao's Compound. Qiao's Compound is marvelous example of the architecture of the Qing dynasty in Taiyuan. The plant occupied 8,724.8 square meters of land, consisting of 6 large yards and 20 small yards with 313 houses in total. Then you continue to visit Pingyao Ancient Town, which is the most well-preserved wall among the ancient historical and cultural cities in China.
Day 3 Pingyao - Taiyuan (B+L)
Sightseeing: Pingyao City Wall / Rishengchang Draft Bank / Ancient Ming and Qing Streets
You will start the day with a visit to Pingyao City Wall, one of the four wholly-protected ancient cities in China. With a total length of six kilometers, the city wall is about 12 meters tall and 3 to 6 meters wide on top. Afterwards, visit the Rishengchang Draft Bank, one of the earliest exchange shops in China. After lunch, you will stroll along the Ancient Ming and Qing Streets.
All the shops along both sides of the street were all built with bricks and stones completely in the style of Ming and Qing architecture, which are all the prototypes of the ancient buildings and quite different from the imitation works now. In the late afternoon, you will drive back to Taiyuan.
Day 4 Taiyuan - Datong by train (B+L)
Sightseeing: Hua Yan Monastery / Nine-Dragon Screen
You will depart from Taiyuan early in the morning, taking a short train to Datong and visit Hua Yan Monastery. Built during the Liao Dynasty (907 - 1125), the Huayan Monastery is the largest and best preserved monastery of the Liao Dynasty in existence in China. After lunch, visit Nine-Dragon Screen, which is presently the oldest and largest glazed screen in China today. It is three times larger than that in Beihai Park, Beijing City.
Day 5 Datong - Next Destination (B+L)
Sightseeing: Yungang Grottoes
You spend the morning visiting the famous Yungang Grottoes, one of the largest grotto-groups in China. There are now 53 grottoes with 51000 statues remaining. Sculptures here are noted for their vigorous features and rich variety that range from the smallest, only 2 centimeters high, to the tallest – a Buddha, which is 17 meters in height. The tallest Buddha is surrounded by many small Buddhas in Grotto No. 5, also called the Big Buddha‘s Cave.
In the afternoon, you will take train to next destination.
