HT04 - China Confucianism & Taoist Culture Tour 13 days

This 13-day private tour covers the Great Wall and the Terracotta Army wonders in Beijing and Xian respectively. Furthermore, we will take you to visit the Confucian Temple, the cemetery of Confucius, the Kong Family Mansion and Mount Taishan, where you will have the chance to learn more about China’s Confucianism & Taoist Culture.

Itinerary

Day 1: Beijing Arrival
Welcome to China! Upon arrival in Beijing, you will be taken to your hotel. As the capital of China, Beijing has a long history with an abundance of historical and cultural heritage-you cannot tear yourself away!
Balance of the day is at leisure.

Day 2: Beijing (B+L+D)
Sightseeing: Sightseeing: Tiananmen Square / Forbidden City / Temple of Heaven / Beijing Duck Dinner
Today you will start the day with a trip to the largest public square in the world: Tiananmen Square. Tiananmen Square is regarded as a symbol of China and capable of holding one million people.
Then you'll head to the Forbidden City, which consists of more than 9,000 rooms and covers an area of 72 hectares. Forbidden City is the largest and the best preserved Imperial Palace in the world.
After lunch, you take a short drive to the Temple of Heaven, which was built specifically for worship of heaven and prayers for good harvests during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The entire complex is a treasure trove of ancient Chinese architectural designs and arts and was listed as UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage in 1998.
Tonight, enjoy a Beijing Duck Dinner.

Day 3: Beijing (B+L)
Sightseeing: Badaling Great Wall / Mind Tombs

You will get up early in the morning and drive about one hour to Badaling Great Wall, China's most spectacular sight extending more than 3,700 miles across China and most often visited for China tour. It is one of the best preserved sections and the highest point of the Great Wall.
For lunch you'll sample simple some delicious cuisine in a local restaurant.
Then head to one of the Mind Tombs. Ming Tombs are the general names for the mausoleums of 13 emperors of the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644), located 50 kilometers north from Beijing City. They were fully recognized by UNESCO's World Heritage Committee in 2000.
When the night falls, you will return to the hotel.

Day 4: Beijing - Xian by air (B+L)
Sightseeing: Hutong / Summer Palace

You will start the day with a unique Hutong Trishaw tour in the morning. Hutongs are a kind of ancient city alley or lane that is considered an informal symbol of the Beijing city. We can also visit local residents and taste some delicious local cuisine while taking the hutong tour.
Your next stop is the Summer Palace, which was listed as UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage in 1998. With its elegant overall arrangement, magnificent buildings and attractive scenery, the Summer Palace is the most splendid imperial garden in China built in 1750.
Then you head for the airport for Xian. Upon arrival in Xian, you will be met at the airport and transferred to the hotel.
The evening is left free for you to explore the city.

Day 5: Xian (B+L)
Sightseeing: Terra Cotta Soldiers Museum / Bell Tower / Big Wild Goose Pagoda

Today you will visit what has been called the 8th Wonder of the World - the Terra Cotta Soldiers Museum, which was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. Altogether over 7,000 pottery soldiers, horses, chariots, and even weapons have been unearthed there.
After lunch, you will visit the Bell Tower. Originally built in 1348, the Bell Tower in Xian is situated in the very heart of the city and is the most well-preserved and best-known one in China.
You will also visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, which is one of the most famous Buddhist pagodas in China and initially built in 589.
The evening is free for you to explore the city.

Day 6: Xian – Jinan by air (B+L)
Sightseeing: Baotu Spring

Take a morning flight to Jinan, the provincial capital of Shandong Province. Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by our tour guide and transferred to the downtown hotel.
After checking in at the hotel and freshening up, you will visit the Baotu Spring. This highly valued facility represents the symbol of Jinan City and is regarded as one of the three major places of interest in Jinan. 

Day 7: Jinan – Qufu by private van (B+L)
Sightseeing: Confucian Temple / the cemetery of Confucius / Kong Family Mansion

Get up early in the morning and drive about two and half hours to Qufu.
After checking in at the hotel, you will visit the Confucian Temple, the cemetery of Confucius and Kong Family Mansion directly. Confucian Temple is a temple devoted to the memory of Confucius and the sages and philosophers of Confucianism. The cemetery of Confucius contains Confucius' tomb and the remains of more than 100,000 of his descendants. East of the Temple of Confucius is the Kong Family Mansion. Kong is the family surname of Confucius and his descendants. The mansion is where the first son and the first grandson of Confucius lived.

Day 8: Qufu - Tai'an – Jinan by private van (B+L)
Sightseeing: Mount Taishan / Dai Temple

You will meet at the lobby of the hotel and drive to Tai’an to visit Mount Taishan, which played an important role in the development of Buddhism and Taoism. It is one of the "Five Sacred Mountains of Taoism" and has been considered a symbol of heaven for over 3000 years and has been a destination of personal pilgrimages of the emperors for over 2000 years. It was listed in the World Natural and Cultural Heritage List of UNESCO in 1987.
After lunch, you will also pay a visit to Dai Temple. It is one of the four most famous ancient architectural complexes including the Forbidden City in Beijing, the Confucian Temple, the cemetery of Confucius and Kong Family Mansion in Qufu, and the Mountain Resort in Chengde.
In the late afternoon, you will be transferred to Jinan by private van.

Day 9: Jinan – Shanghai by air (B+L)
Sightseeing: Bund / Nanjing Road

Feel free at leisure before boarding your flight to Shanghai, the largest and most prosperous metropolis in China and known as the "Paris of the East". Upon arrival, you will be greeted and warmly welcomed by our guide and transferred to the hotel.
After checking in at the hotel, you will visit the Bund, where the great foreign commercial houses and banks built their imposing office buildings before 1930s.
Then you will stroll along the Nanjing Road, which is considered as one of the World's Seven Great Roads in the 1930s and always mentioned in travel guides as a must see of China tour.
 
Day 10: Shanghai (B+L)
Sightseeing: Yu Garden / Oriental Pearl TV Tower / Jade Buddha Temple / Shanghai Xin Tian Di

Today you will start the day with a trip to the elegant classic Chinese garden: Yu Garden. Yu Yuan Garden has quite a few scenic courtyards dotted with baroque rockery, pools and flora, all connected by corridors and passageways and cultural relics.
You then head for Oriental Pearl TV Tower, with an astonishing height of 468 meters, ranks as the world's third tallest TV tower, after the 553-meter CN Tower in Toronto and the 535-meter Moscow TV Tower.
After lunch, you will also pay a visit to the Jade Buddha Temple, one of the most famous Buddhist temples to be found in Shanghai and one of Shanghai's top tourist destinations.
You will also stroll along Shanghai Xin Tian Di, which has become an urban tourist attraction that holds the historical and cultural legacies of the city.

Day 11: Shanghai - Suzhou by train (B+L)
Sightseeing: Humble Administrator's Garden / Hanshan Temple / Tiger Hill Park

In the morning, you will take a short drive to Suzhou. After checking into your hotel in Suzhou in mid-morning, you go to the gorgeous classic Chinese garden: Humble Administrator's Garden, which is regarded as the greatest garden of all southern Chinese gardens. Besides, The Humble Administrator's Garden was listed as UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage in 1997.
After lunch, you will also pay a visit to Hanshan Temple, one of Suzhou's greatest landmarks and most popular Buddhist temples.
You then proceed to Tiger Hill Park. The Tiger Hill Pagoda in the park is the landmark of Suzhou city which was built from 959 to 961 during the Song dynasty. Ascending the hill, you will find a great number of places of interest, some of which have a long history.

Day 12: Suzhou - Zhouzhuang - Shanghai by private van / train (B+L)
Sightseeing: Zhouzhuang

In the morning, you spend half an hour on private car or van driving to Zhouzhuang, one of the most famous water townships in China. Zhouzhuang is renowned for its colorful culture and customs, the well preserved and typical ancient architecture and the spectacular scenery. Nearly 100 old houses and over 60 carved-brick arches have remained unchanged through the past 500 years.
For lunch you'll sample some delicious fare in a local restaurant. In the mid-afternoon, you will make a beeline for the train station back to Shanghai.

Day 13: Shanghai – Next Destination (B)
You will indulge in some shopping before boarding the plane for next destination.
