This tour covers the major historical sites in the most important historical cities- Beijing, Xian, and the picturesque city of Guilin. Moreover, you will also have chance to visit the most modern cities Hong Kong and Shanghai.  In 2009 this tour will also include a viewing of the solar eclipse in Shanghai.  At more than 5 minutes of totality, the total solar eclipse on the 22nd of July 2009 will be the longest of the 21st century – a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Itinerary

Day 1 Thu 16-Jul-09 Meal(s) 
Hong Kong Arrival

Welcome to China. Upon arrival, our local guide will take you to your downtown hotel. The rest of the day is on your own to explore the city.

Day 2 Fri 17-Jul-09 Meal(s) (B)
Hong Kong

Sightseeing: Victoria Peak / Aberdeen / Repulse Bay
Today you will take half day city tour. Firstly, you will visit one of Hong Kong's leading tour destinations: Victoria Peak. From the top of the peak, you will get a breathtaking view of Victoria Harbor as well as the whole city.
Then you will head to Aberdeen, the largest town located on Hong Kong Island. Once a quiet fishing village, Aberdeen is now a thriving town famous for its floating restaurants, delicious seafood, junks and sampans.
Next you will take a short drive to Repulse Bay, a famous beach having the highest representative characteristics of Hong Kong with its long and wide beach, clean water, calm tide and gentle waves.
For lunch, you will be transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Hong Kong - Guilin by air

The morning is free for you to explore the city.
After lunch, you will drive to the airport for a direct flight to Guilin, a city famous for its breathtaking scenery, rivers and karst peaks covered in lush greenery.
Upon arrival in Guilin, you will be met at the airport by our guide, and driven to your downtown hotel.

Guilin - Yangshuo - Guilin by boat & private van
Sightseeing: Li River / Western Street

You will get up early in the morning and drive about 40 minutes to Zhujiang pier to take the Li River cruise, which is considered one of China's top tourist destinations. Along the river, you will enjoy the picturesque mountains, peaceful green fields, crystal-clear water, lush bamboos and villages with water buffalos. Lunch will be served on board.
After a 4.5 hour Li River Cruise, the beautiful, quaint and ancient town of Yangshuo will greet your eyes.
You will drive back to Guilin city after a short walk along the famous foreigner street- Western Street.

Sightseeing: Reed Flute Cave / Seven Star Park / Elephant Trunk Hill

Today begins with a tour of Reed Flute Cave. Inside you will see many differently shaped and imaginatively named stalactites & stalagmites in what is known as "A Natural arts gallery". After lunch, you will also pay a visit to Seven Star Park. The main sights here are Seven Star Cave, Dragon Hiding Cave, Flowers Bridge, the Zoo, Mosque, and Potted Trees. Your next stop is Elephant Trunk Hill, which is regarded as the symbol of the Guilin landscape.

Sightseeing: Yu garden / Shanghai Xin Tian Di

You will get up early in the morning and check out of your hotel, take your flight to Shanghai and transfer to your hotel. After a short rest, you will visit the Yu garden, a former private garden, called a work of art, consisting of designs with different styles of traditional Chinese horticultural art. Then you will stroll along Shanghai Xin Tian Di, which has become an urban tourist attraction that holds the historical and cultural legacies of the city.

Sightseeing: Solar eclipse viewing / Jade Buddha Temple / Oriental Pearl TV Tower / Bund / Nanjing Road

Following an early breakfast we will depart for the eclipse viewing site which will be announced in the morning. Depending on the weather we will travel to the east or west of Jiaxing and this decision will be made in real time. We will locate our site in this zone where up to 5m 52s of totality can be seen. Then you will visit Shanghai Museum which is the biggest museum in China, with a collection of over 120,000 pieces of Chinese art & cultural relics. Then transfer you to Yu Garden. It is characteristic of the architectural style of the Ming Dynasty and it used to be a private garden with 400 years' history. In front of the garden, there is a market called the Yu Market. After lunch you will visit the Oriental Pearl TV Tower. Standing by the Huangpu River and 468 meters high, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower is the highest TV Tower in Asia.

Sightseeing: Provincial History Museum

You will depart for a flight to Xian and transfer to your downtown hotel. Afterwards, you will begin your journey to the Provincial History Museum, which houses a large collection of historic and cultural artifacts unearthed in Shaanxi Province.

Sightseeing: Terra Cotta Soldiers Museum / Big Wild Goose Pagoda / Bell Tower
Today you will visit what has been called the 8th Wonder of the World, the Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum. It is one of the most important archaeological excavations and cultural findings in the 20th century. After lunch, you will drive back to the city to visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda is one of symbols of Xian and a remarkable milestone of Chinese architecture. Afterward, you will visit the Bell Tower. Originally built in 1348, the Bell Tower in Xian is situated in the very heart of the city and is the best-preserved and best-known one in China.

Sightseeing: Summer Palace

You will depart from Xian early in the morning, taking a short flight to Beijing and transfer to your downtown hotel. Afterward, you will start the day with a trip to the Summer Palace, which has a history of over 800 years. All the man-made hills, halls, pavilions and temples, including Kunming Lake and Longevity Hill, blend together harmoniously in spite of their individual styles.

Sightseeing: Tiananmen Square / Forbidden City / Temple of Heaven / Beijing Duck Dinner

Today you will visit Tiananmen Square which is considered the largest square in the world. After that, you will visit the Forbidden City, the most complete imperial palace in China. And later you will also pay a visit to the Temple of Heaven. The Temple of Heaven was built in the year 1420 and symbolized the emperor’s ability to contact the sky through it.
In the evening, enjoy a Peking Duck Dinner in a famous restaurant.

Sightseeing: Badaling Great Wall / Spirit Way / Ming Tombs
After breakfast, you will visit the Badaling Great Wall where you will experience first hand the wonder of the Great Wall. For lunch you'll sample some delicious fare in a local restaurant. Afterwards, take a short drive to visit the Spirit Way and one of Ming Tombs. The Spirit Way is an impressive marble archway as well as the entrance to the Ming Tombs, flanked by many animal and human statues on the left and on the right of the avenue.
Ming Tombs represent the royal tombs of the Ming Dynasty. Thirteen emperors of the Ming dynasty from 1368 to 1644 are buried there.

Sightseeing: Hutong / Lama Temple

Starting the day later than usual, you will begin with a unique Hutong Trishaw tour in the morning.  Hutongs are a kind of ancient city alley or lane that is considered an informal symbol of Beijing city. Afterward, you will also pay a visit to the Lama Temple. It is a typical Tibetan Monastery in Beijing and reveals various architectural styles from Han, Mongolia, Manchuria and Tibet, and features the impressive 60-foot Maitreya Buddha, carved form a single sandalwood tree.
