Ancestral Temple of the Chen Family
The Ancestral Temple of the Chen Family is located at 7 Zhongshan Road in Guangzhou. The construction began in 1894, sponsored by Chen Xianglin, a founder of the local charity organization, together with Chen Ruinan and Chen Yaonan, who returned from abroad. The Ancestral Temple of the Chen Family is set in grounds covering an area of 10,000 sq meters and has 6 courtyards and 9 main halls. It is the largest, best preserved, and best decorated ancient architecture in Guangdong province. The buildings are known for their exquisite and mythical decorations, such as the brick carvings of historic figures. The Ancestral Temple of the Chen Family is a good example of South China architecture and is luxuriously furnished.
