Ziyuan
Ziyuan is a beautiful county in Guilin. I heard of its beauty many years ago and was inspired to visit by a yearning to see its enchanting scenery. So, I got on the bus and began my journey in Ziyuan.
Ziyuan County is 108 km from Guilin city. Originating at Cat Hill, Zijiang River runs 83 km from north to south through the county with a riverbed about 100-meter wide and a drop in elevation of 1,423 meters. The 22.5 kilometer long Zijiang River winds its way, like a jade belt, around the oddly shaped and beautiful mountains, the ecological environment at both sides of the river caused by red landforms. Zijiang River Drifting Area stretches 22.5km with 59 fabulous scenic spots consisting of precipitous cliffs, towering peaks and oddly shaped rocks along the riverbanks. There are over 60 scenic attractions along the river, among which are the Sweep Stone, the Magical Elephant Drinking Water, and A Break of the Sky, The Supernatural Being Mountain Stronghold, and The Torch Mount.
Bajiaozhai Mountain is 75 meters long from north to south and 45 meters long wide from east to west, the top of the peak covering 3,375 square meters. High in the clouds, the towering peak looks like the head and the tail of a dragon. The 7 peaks around look like horns of beasts, hence the name of Bajiaozhai. Zijiang and Bajiaozhai are in typical red sandstone formation. Bajiaozhai has become a national forest park.
