Shexian County
Located at the southern foot of Mt. Huangshan and on the upper reaches of the Xin'anjiang River, Shexian is an ancient cultural county under jurisdiction of Huangshan City. Shexian County is famous as the "Town of Arches" and has thousands of arches scattered around. It is the best place to explore the social culture in China's feudal society. The county has many well-preserved courtyards, gardens, pagodas and bridges, most of these were built during Ming and Qing Dynasties, some were constructed as early as Song Dynasty. Shexian also produces excellent inkslabs. The art of inkstone making has been famous for over 800 years. "The She Inkslab" is among the best in China.
