Abakh Khoja Tomb
or the Xiangfei Tomb, is located five kilometers northeast of Kashgar. As a masterpiece of Uigur architecture, it is the most magnificent tomb in Kashgar, filled with history and symbolism. Built from 1640, the tomb covers an area of about five acres, and all five generations of the family are buried within.
Just inside the gate is a large rectangular courtyard made up of a gate tower, worship walls, Tomb Hall, Doctrine-Teaching Hall and Great Hall of Prayer. With glazed tiles shining in the sun, its tower points to the azure sky. The Tomb Hall, with a 17-meter- (55.8-foot) diameter dome is covered with glazed green tiles. Inside the hall, tombs decorated with beautiful flower patterns on a white background, glittering, simple and elegant are settled on a high terrace. The Great Hall of Prayer in the west part of the tomb (Ayitijiayi) is the place where the Muslim believers conduct service on big days. The Tombs Hall, with a dome shaped top of seventeen meters in diameter and covered with green glazed tiles outside, is twenty-six meters high and thirty-nine meters long at the base. The hall is high, spacious and columnless. Inside the hall, there is a high terrace on which the tombs are arranged. All the tombs are built of glazed bricks with very beautiful patterns of blue flowers on a white background, glittering, simple and elegant.
