Liuzhou Travel Guide

The history of Liuzhou began as early as 40,000-50,000 years ago. It is located in the interior of Guangxi. To its southeast are spectacular jagged mountain peaks and to the northwest, rolling hills. The clear Liujiang River, like a green jade belt, encircles the downtown area, forming a pot-shaped peninsula, hence its nickname - Dragon City. A panoramic view from atop Yufeng Peak on the southern bank of Liujiang River reveals that the entire city is a gigantic circle, with the mountains, river and urban architecture forming an enormous three-dimensional painting.
Climate
Liuzhou enjoys a subtropical monsoon climate with moderate temperatures and abundant rainfall. The summers are long and hot, while the winters are short and not so cold. Visitors can enjoy visiting Liuzhou in any season. Because it is often rainy, umbrellas and rain jackets are indispensable to visitors while traveling here.

Getting There

By air
Liuzhou Bailian Airport is 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) south of the city proper and has flights to Beijing, Haikou, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Chongqing, and Chengdu. For other cities in China or for Hong Kong and other countries in South East Asia, it is necessary to fly from Guilin.

By road
Expressways link Liuzhou with Nanning to the south and Guilin to the north. A regular and comfortable coach service runs between Liuzhou and these two cities. Additionally there are highways linking to Guangzhou (Canton) and to the port of Beihai in the far south of Guangxi. Buses run both by day and by night (sleeper bus). Coaches to Guangzhou and Shenzhen are faster than the train, but less comfortable.

By train
Liuzhou is well connected by train to the rest of China. There are several daily trains to Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an etc. and Hong Kong is easily accessible via Guangzhou or Shenzhen (although the coach is much faster). Ticket availability is reasonably good ( except around the big public holidays - Spring Festival (Chinese New Year), May 1st and October 1st). It is also possible to travel by train to Hanoi in neighbouring Vietnam.

Nightlife
70s Commune Bar Culture Study Centre
The place is in two parts. There is an office area to the right and to the left is the bar. The bar is decorated in at least three simultaneous themes. There are the traditional Chinese lanterns above the bar itself. Around the walls are various pieces of artwork, pottery, sculptures and photographs. There is also a selection of Cultural Revolution artifacts and military equipment. All the artwork is for sale and the prices seem reasonable. In the background, at a reasonable level, real jazz music plays. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the place has the feel of a private club.
Events

World Clown Festival
The World Clown Festival is an entertaining and cultural event held by the Liuzhou municipal government, participated in by the whole society, oriented to the market, operated by the company, developed by the industry and is beneficial to the public.
