Luoyang Travel Guide
Luoyang is located along the southern banks of the middle reaches of the Yellow River. It was selected as the capital city by 13 dynasties starting from the Xia Dynasty (21st-16th century BC) in the 21st century BC. More than 70 rulers of nine different dynasties kept their capitals here; hence the name "Capital of Nine Dynasties." With a history of nearly 5,000 years, Luoyang is a famous historical and cultural city and key tourist destination. The Longmen Grottoes is one of China's big-three grottoes; the Baima Temple is China's first Buddhist temple set up by government; and the Luoyang Museum of Ancient Tombs is the largest group of ancient tombs in the world.
Luoyang has four distinct seasons. Spring is dry and windy. Summer is hot and rainy. Winter is cold and dry. Autumn is the best season to visit the city because of the humid and pleasant climate.
