The Ruins of Jiaohe Ancient City

Ancient City of Jiaohe is one of the world's architectural wonders hides in Yarnaz Valley, 10 kilometers west of Turpan. With a history of 2300 years, Ancient City of Jiaohe is 1,650 meters by 300 meters at its widest and with an area of 220,000 square meters. It is also the largest, oldest and best-preserved earthen city in the world. The layout was quite complete, there were wide streets and city gates on the east, south and west. At present, one can find well-preserved ruins of official buildings, temples, streets and graveyards there. The relics we see today featured Tang Dynasty ( 618-907) architectural style. Houses were dug downward from the earth, and as no house gates faced the streets, military defense was apparently priority. The ruins, very rare in the world, are extremely valuable for studying ancient cities. The Ruins of Jiaohe Ancient City has been recognized by the UNESCO as one of the world's natural heritage sites.
