Museum of Qin Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses
35 kilometres (20 miles) east of Xi'an, at the foot of Lishan Mountain. In the early spring of 1974, the terra cotta warriors were cidentally discovered by Chinese peasants while digging a well. It has been called the "eighth wonder of the world". They are the largest pottery figurine group ever unearthed in China. The museum covers an area of 16,300 square meters, divided into three sections: No. 1 Pit, No. 2 Pit, and No. 3 Pit respectively. Some 8,000 life-sized warriors with their individual features and facial expressions, line up in battle-readiness monstrate a powerful military array under the rule of the First Emperor of the Qin Dynasty, 2,200 years ago. An unearthed bronze horse-driven chariot is the largest bronze ware ever found in the world.
