Xian Travel Guide
Xi'an, once called Chang'an in Han Dynasty, is the capital of Shanxi Province. As one of China's seven ancient national capitals, it served as the capital for 12 dynasties spanning more than 1,000 years. The city's capital status lasted for 1608 years. Summers are usually warm to moist and rainfall too occurs at times. Winds blow from the south during summers. In winters, due to the northerly winds, Xian is quite cold and dry. Spring and autumn offers moderate or mild climate. That is why spring and autumn are the most appropriate seasons to visit Xian.

Because of its long development as a culture, the cuisine of Xi'an is extensive as well. It is the representative of food of Northwestern China. The most well known local food is the Xianese snack, which consists of both traditional food of the Han Chinese and Hui ethnic minority. Hui-style snacks feature beef and mutton because the Hui people, being Muslims, do not eat pork. Baked beef and mutton, and other such regional dishes are usually spicy in nature and incorporate a lot of beef and mutton ingredients. Xi'an Xianyang International Airport is the major airport serving the city and is the largest airport in the northwest region of China. The airport is located to the northwest of the city, between Xi'an and Xianyang. Chang'an Airlines and China Eastern Airlines are the main airport tenants.
International Routes: There are direct flights from Xi'an to many major cities in Asia, including Singapore, Bangkok, Tokyo, Osaka, Sapporo, Fukuoka, Kyoto, Hong Kong, Seoul, and Pusan.
It’s possible to fly to almost every major city in China as well as several international ones. Daily flights include Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Guilin, Shanghai and Qingdao, etc.
By train
There are 6 passenger transport railway stations in Xi'an at present, and Xi'an Railway Station is one of the eight most important railway stations nationally.
Xi'an Railway Station covers 597 thousand square meters, has 5 passenger platforms, and 24 tracks. It provides 112 services to 80 thousand people daily. There are direct trains from Xian to Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Hefei, Qingdao, Shanghai, Taiyuan, Urumqi and Wuhan.

With peasants finding that their fields are full of valuable antiques stored in the graves of their prosperous ancestors, digging is going on at a furious pace in the countryside surrounding Xi'an. Factories producing excellent copies are also very busy. If you're after a genuine antique, you have some chance of finding one here. There are fakes aplenty, but this market is geared to locals, so asking prices are not as absurd as elsewhere. There are bronzes of all kinds, heroic comic books from the Cultural Revolution, and weird kama sutra-inspired wood carvings.

Chang'an Annual lnternational Calligraphy Meeting
Chang'an Annual lnternational Calligraphy Meeting is a commemoration of Chinese classical writing styles. Organized in Xian of Shaanxi Province of China, the festival has been celebrated with pomp and grandeur in the last week of March. A great is held. Inscriptions are written on a 100-meter-long scroll. The Chinese and foreign calligraphers' association issues annual meeting certificates, and the four treasures of the study (writing brush, ink slab, ink stick and paper) are put on exhibition.
Xian city wall International Marathon
The Marathon of Xian City wall has graduated into an international sport of fame and repute. The Marathon started way back in the beginning of nineties and has gathered momentum over the years.
The city of Xian boasts of a city history dating back to some six hundred years and the city wall around which the Marathon is centered is 13.74 kilometer long and nearly twelve to fourteen meters wide on the top.
One has to run the total distance of 13.7 kilometers to take part in the complete marathon which is also the circumference of the Xian city wall. People who wish to take part in the complete marathon have to run around the great wall for some three times.
While people who run to enjoy the spirit of the event can do so by running around the wall once. People belonging to different age groups take part in the race staring from eight to eighty everybody takes part in the race.
Xian Art Festival of Ancient Culture
If ethnicity is what you are looking for then the place to be is the Xian Ancient Culture and art festival which has been held every year since 1990 and it aims to foster better understanding of the Chinese culture among nations as far as Belgium, Germany, South Africa, and Netherlands.
People from more than thirty one countries have taken part in the festival and they have attracted a combine spectatorship of more than a million.
Age old folk performances, craft and trade fairs and musical performances are a part of the festival and a new event that has gained momentum in the previous years is entering the city ceremony where guests are welcomed on the ancient City Wall.
Lantern Festival Xian
The lantern festival is one of the most important festivals which have originated in the Western Han Dynasty which is supposed to bring loads of good luck. This festival as the name suggest is about hanging lanterns and is usually celebrated on the 15th of the first month of the lunar calendar. The lantern festival is also known as Yuanxio Festival and it has been celebrated in China for more than two thousand years.
Once the festival starts the whole place is abuzz with activities and lanterns are seen everywhere right from the largest commodity market in the Kangfu street to other lesser known places.
